what is a California King? California Kings (CA. King) are 4 inches longer and
4 inches narrower than Standard King mattresses. Standard King beds (King) are
also sometimes refereed to as Eastern King beds by some retailers and are more
common than California Kings. All of our bed frames are considered platform

About Our Asian Furniture Construction
The
majority of our furniture is made with mortise and tenon joinery and without
the use of nails. Have you ever purchased a piece of furniture that begins
to loosen and wobble after a just few years? Take a look and you will
most likely find it was fastened with nails. Through use nails begin to
pull from boards and quickly become looser and looser, and are difficult
to repair. Screws on the other hand, when fastened securely into sturdy
wood, will stay in place far longer and can be re tightened if needed.
-Mortise and tenon joinery are among the strongest joints in furniture
making. There are two basic parts, the mortise, which is a recessed cut, and
the tenon, which is basically a solid peg (think Leggos). Fit them together
and fasten with a screw or an additional peg and you've just made furniture
that will last for generations.
-English dovetail drawers are not only sturdiest construction technique
but allow for more storage than commonly used french dovetail drawers English
dovetail drawers are a form of tenon joinery recognizable by interlocking
triangle pattern shown to the right.
- Drawer bottoms - Our drawer bottoms are reinforced with solid
wood center cross pieces.
About
the Materials All of the wood (mostly teak, mahogany or rosewood) used to make the
products we carry is either re-claimed wood or wood harvested from plantation
grown trees. The result is beautiful Asian furniture pieces that don't leave
an ugly scar on the earth.
-Reclaimed wood comes from sources such as old houses, bridges and
railroads that are torn down and sold in scraps. The wood is then treated and
re-finished before it is reborn as furniture. Reclaimed wood not only saves
trees and utilizes waste but is actually stronger than new wood because aging
naturally decreases water content in wood. The result is wood that is far less
likely to warp, expand or contract making it a more durable and environmentally
friendly choice.
-We use Plantation grown teak to make our teak furniture sourced from
plantations that are regulated by the Indonesian government vs. harvested from
virgin forests. These plantations continually plant new trees and are not permitted
to expand. The result is high quality teak without the continued destruction
of earths remaining forests. Teak is among the most beautiful and durable woods
on the planet.

Customer Reviews
Author: Bernhard We had been looking for a modern take on the canopy bed, which would fit into a contemporary urban apartment. After looking around a bit it became clear that there was a thin middle ground between too ornate and neo-baroque on one hand and too modernist cold and geometric on the other hand. For the bedroom, we wanted something warm and romantic, but without going overboard.
After looking at many pictures of canopy beds on the Internet, I came across this one and instantly liked it. It has simple and clean lines and besides the square pattern on the headboard, the only ornate elements are what is actually holding the bed together: the through- tenon which attaches head & side-boards to the posts and the log-cabin style joints of the canopy rails. Simply form following function. The tapered posts and the protruding ends of the canopy rails are just enough to break the lines, preventing too much of a cubic, geometric wireframe look.
It has a no-nonsense artisanal look about itself. Even though it is billed as Asian inspired, it also evokes the style of the American Craftsman period or simply the kind of furniture the local carpenter in my grandfathers rural Central-European village would have made about a century ago. It looks simple, solid and with its exposed construction and lightly stained wood has nothing to hide.
It took a bit more searching to find out where this image was actually coming from and if this product was actually on sale somewhere at reasonable conditions. Buying furniture over the Internet can be daunting, without being able to see and touch it. Or to buy from a vendor which is unknown and without much references. Despite being unknown to us, Tansu.net seemed like the kind of "long-tail" vendor made possible by the Internet, who is promoting an exotic niche product with passion. Unfortunately they are all the way across the country from us, so stopping by their warehouse and looking at the product was out of the question, so after one or two phone calls with Tansu.net, we decided to take a chance and buy it unseen.
The furniture was delivered and assembled in white-glove service by a big nationwide moving and delivery company about 4-5 weeks after the order. So far we are very happy with the result. The furniture has a very unique, hand-made feel and the stained hardwood has a beautiful natural texture.
Author: Anna - Encinitas, CA. The canopy bed and matching dresser were exactly the style we were looking for. The construction is solid and sturdy, and the items look better in person than we imagined. We also appreciate the responsive service that we received from Tansu.
